Every Second Counts: Giving Young People Skills That Could Save Lives

At #kNOwKnifeCrime, we believe education is one of the most powerful tools we have to create safer communities. While conversations around knife crime often focus on prevention, we also believe it is important to equip young people with practical knowledge and skills that could make a difference during emergency situations.

That belief is exactly why we created our Every Second Counts Workshop.

Every Second Counts is an interactive workshop designed to give young people the confidence, knowledge, and practical understanding needed to respond during life-threatening situations involving severe bleeding.

Through practical, hands-on learning experiences, students explore how to recognise severe bleeding, understand the importance of acting quickly, and learn simple techniques that could help while waiting for emergency services to arrive.

The workshop is not designed to create fear — it is designed to build confidence.

Many young people tell us that they would not know what to do during an emergency. Through Every Second Counts, we create a safe environment where children can ask questions, develop practical skills, and understand that remaining calm and taking action can make a significant difference.

Beyond practical learning, the workshop also encourages important conversations around responsibility, community safety, and the role we can all play in protecting one another.

At #kNOwKnifeCrime, we believe prevention and protection go hand in hand.

Through Every Second Counts, we are helping young people understand that knowledge creates confidence — and that confidence can help save lives.

Because when emergencies happen, every second really does count.
